Macaulay Honors College and the Design Trust for Public Space have partnered on New York: City Designed, a program aimed at providing students interested in the planning, design, and preservation fields with a hands-on understanding of the forces that have shaped their city and access to careers in those sectors. The year-long program will include a host of opportunities for Macaulay students to engage in coursework, experiential learning, workshop-based problem-solving, lectures, site visits, and internship placements.
The program includes three distinct parts:
Designing New York City: an overview seminar offered in the Fall semester at Macaulay Central
a place-based workshop in the spring, and
cohort-based internships in the summer.
Students can participate in any individual part or in the entire sequence, depending on their interests and needs. The NYCD program can form a core part of the curriculum for an aspiring architect or planner, or it can complement a wide variety of majors, including economics, environmental sciences, psychology, political science, psychology, and urban studies. Students will finish the program with a greater understanding of the city as a designed space, and through their future work, in all fields, advocate for a more just and equitable New York.
